Chelsea have appointed former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, the club announced on Monday.

Pochettino, 51, signed a two-year deal with the option of a further year and will start work on July 1 ahead of the club's preseason tour to the United States.

The Argentine replaces Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked in December after a run of poor results. Chelsea finished the season in 13th place, their worst finish in 29 years.

Pochettino is a popular choice among Chelsea fans, having been linked with the job on several occasions in the past. He is known for his attacking style of play and his ability to get the best out of young players.

During his time at Tottenham, Pochettino led the club to the Champions League final in 2019. He was also named Premier League Manager of the Year in 2015.

Pochettino will be tasked with rebuilding Chelsea and returning them to the top of English football. The club have not won the Premier League since 2017.

In a statement, Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck said: "We are delighted to welcome Mauricio to Chelsea. He is one of the most sought-after managers in world football and we are incredibly lucky to have him on board.

"We believe he is the right person to lead us into the new era and help us achieve our long-term ambitions."

Pochettino said: "I am delighted to be joining Chelsea. It is a club with a rich history and I am excited to be a part of it.

"I am looking forward to working with the players and staff to bring success back to Chelsea."

Pochettino's appointment is a major coup for Chelsea. He is one of the most respected managers in the world and his arrival will be seen as a sign that the club are serious about challenging for the top trophies again.

Pochettino will face a tough task in rebuilding Chelsea. The club have a number of aging players and they will need to invest heavily in their squad if they are to challenge for the top trophies again.

However, Pochettino has a proven track record of success in the Premier League and he will be confident of leading Chelsea back to the top.

Pochettino's appointment is a major boost for Chelsea fans. The club have been in turmoil for the past few years, but Pochettino's arrival will give them hope that they can return to the top of English football.
